Evernote’s current policy for free users who exceed the 50-note or 1-notebook limit is to treat the account as a "read-and-manage-only" archive. [3, 4]
Here is exactly what you can and cannot do right now:
* You Can Still Access Them: You can view, edit, and share all of your existing notes, regardless of how many you have (even if it’s thousands).
* You Can Export Them: You still have the ability to export your data (as ENEX or PDF files), which is essential for moving to another app.
* You Cannot Create New Notes: Until you either delete enough notes to get below the 50-note limit or upgrade to a paid plan, the "New Note" button will be disabled.
* Trash Counts: Note that any notes currently in your Trash folder count toward that 50-note limit. You must empty the trash to actually "free up" those slots.
* Notebook Restrictions: You are now limited to one notebook. If you already have multiple, they will still exist, but you cannot create any new notebooks or move notes between existing ones while over the limit. [2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11]
In short, your data is not lost or "locked" behind a paywall; Evernote has simply stopped you from adding anything new until you become a subscriber. [12]
Would you like to start the process of exporting your notes to Joplin now, or do you have more questions about how the limits affect your current data?
